Uh oh-another lawsuit against Texas City for not putting signs up. I think the sign should say: "Stupid folks may drown".
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Oh man, I did not get on any personal watercrafts until I learned to swim. I guess that dikes going to be a "High enformcent area" for a while. Thats good though. several times when I had my 21 foot mako I would see Peice or junk boats out at the north jetty. Heck while fishing on my friends 31 footer we had to rescue 3 guys from the rocks. Their boat was not sea worthy, the did spoke englich doh
The Galveston Jetties and San Luis Pass are such an attraction for anyone with anything that 'floats'. I've seen more unbelievable sights at each, then anywhere else. 14 foot jon boats with 4 guys, no jackets. Countless dinky anchors tied to poly ski ropes that just don't seem to 'bite'. Both locations are dangerous for the unprepared and stupid. Just this weekend saw a 18 foot john boat with 6 adults and easily as many kids, some infants, just cruisin around behind the pass exploring. Sure, most days like this last Sunday you're fine. But one mistake, and it's a major event.
The new law requiring anyone born after 93 to take a boating safety class may help in 10/20 years. Think they should require boaters education classes for anyone registering a boat that has not owned a boat previously other states do. You have to have a drivers license to drive a car but they let any fool can operate a boat. Too many see a boat as a toy and operate it like a little kid would.

How about two guys fishing out of an inflatable "Academy Special" camo boat near the 2004 bridge the other day. I ran through there the other day just after day break, as always I shut down for the ramp. Low and behold there are two guys 6 rods and an ice chest paddeling in the middle of the channel just as happy as could be. To each is their own, but it's only a matter of time!
Back in the 80s, while wading at base of South Jetty at Apfel park on channel side, I saw two guys swim out to a floating trunk of a big Oak tree near the ship channel-they climbed on it and paddled like it was a raft-the funny thing was that the tide was going out and they were moving out with it. When I left that morning, they were about 1/2 down the jetty almost in the ship channel itself. Not sure what happened to them, but I think they may have ended up in the gulf. I yelled at them when I first saw them swim to the tree, but I don't think they understood me. I mean these guys were almost at the marker buoys-regardless, if they swam back, the nearest land was the Jetties, plus they were dang close to the ships. They weren't Olympic swimmers either. Don't know what happened to them.
