boat engine trimmed up and stuck?? what causes this?

i was lowering my boat in the lift and the engine trimmed up out of the water all by itself. i wasn't even on the boat. when i jumped in and tried to trim it back down it would only go down a little, then would trim back up. the trim switch on the engine itself would do nothing. my neighbor towed me in and i have it in the shop. fortunately it happened at home and not over in chocolate where i was fishing two days ago. any ideas what could cause this??

Bad switch, corrosion, ground, could be a number of thing's.

Mine was a bad switch on the throttle

Sounds like a switch or relay problem.
The tilt/trim unit is still operating so it more than likely isn't a T/T motor unit issue.
Shouldn't be an expensive repair.

pardon my blondness but what is a relay?? anyway, i was just curious. it's at ron hoovers. i was going to take it in for another issue then this happened when i was lowering it from the lift. my friend's saying is correct, if it has tits, tires, testicles, a trailer, or a throttle it's gonna give you problems!! or if it's named jt!!lol
