Volunteer Fire Fighters



My Wife, Daughter and I went to get a burger in Magnolia about 7:00 pm yesterday. We then parked in the Brookshire Bros parking lot facing the 1488 & 1774 intersection that was blocked off because of the fires. We sat there over an hour watching these volunteers. I have the highest respect for all fire fighters but these men and women put their lives on hold and in danger for no other reason than to help there fellow man.
We watched as they would pull in for fuel. Fuel that's payed for only by donations. These people are running wide open. Doing everything as fast as they could. Most of them were dirty and looked worn out but their sprits were high. We saw trucks and volunteers as far away as Cleveland and many others that are not from our area. Alot of these volunteers don't know anyone in this area but yet they come to do battle to protect us. My home has not been in danger from these fires but I can tell you from what I saw yesterday I can rest alot better knowing these volunteers have my back and will do whatever it takes to protect what I have. The next time I see these volunteers taking donations I will dig alot deeper in my pockets to help them. My wife and Daughter will be taking a few cases of drinks to the fire station today.

To all those out there battling those fires : THANK YOU very much for what you do! May God bless you all.

Nope-he's taking on Obama-you know, the highest spending and most wasteful spending POTUS ever that cannot create any "jobs" but gummint jobs (and alot of those were temporary Census Workers-woo hoo, what a deal!!) and tonite will tell us how $300,000,000,000 (that's right-300 BILLION DOLLARS) will create jobs-sheeit, $300,000,000,000 better farging create jobs-if not, hope he goes back to "Munity Organizin" -the POTUS aint EVER worked a real job-never held a real job in the real world of business and his idiots also have no clue.

In light of his speech tonight, the I.P.A.A., as part of a multi-industry effort, sent a letter to President Obama asking him to improve the efficiency and the rate of permitting activity in the Gulf of Mexico. The letter referenced the recent IHS report which found that increased exploration and production activities in the Gulf would create 230,000 jobs, increase the U.S. gross domestic product by $44 billion, and produce 400,000 barrels of oil per day. The letter urged the President to “make responsible and effective exploration and development of energy resources in the Gulf of Mexico and elsewhere a centerpiece of your jobs agenda.” He hamstrung an entire industry and still has no clue.

Perhaps Obama should ENCOURAGE business instead of jerk it around, the economy would immediately improve-he has done very well at stifling business and industry growth while give bullchip companies like Solyndra (a "Green" company-yea, my butt) $535,000,000 in Stimulus Money when they were obviously going downhill fast-gave them the over 1/2 BILLION Dollars last year and filed Chapter 11 two days ago-they spent almost all of the $535 MILLION in a year-and oh yeah, laid off all 1100 workers-and now are being investigated by DOE Inspector General and FBI-maybe because of all the campaign money given to Obama?? Why yes, that is a big part of the reason for the investigation-crooked bastage.

VOTE A.B.O.-Anybody But Obama-the "sleeping" cat on the side of the Highway would make a better POTUS than Obama-dead kitty gets my vote over Obama-at least the Cat won't destroy the economy, cannot ruin business and will not give welfare dregs all my money so they live better than me while busting my butt for 30+ years and contributing to society instead of being a leech!!

Thanks Swells So far I aint heard much Federal help/resources to help to put out the fires-seems like a lot of Texas locals and volunteers and no National Guard. I heard about the pilot issue-that seems somewhat incredulous with all the AF Bases here. Heck in Needville a cropduster was dispersing water on the hot spots. I know that we have some excellent Pilots at Randolph (sheeit, we trained a lot of the World's pilots there), so why isn't some AF Pilots flying the available plane? Me no unnnerstan??

Robalo, the Texas Air National Guard has been working the Bastrop fire since August 31st with 8 Blackhawks, 3 Chinhooks, a 1/2 dozen bulldozers. You have to remember there are 60 something fires burning in Texas, Fort Hood was battling thier own 5k acre fire, resources around the State are spread thin. Gater

I just don't understand why Chief Walking Eagle (BloBama) aint doing anything with US Resources other than sending FEMA folks down to write checks? He sure touts blowing the hell out of spending money all the time, but does little where it counts such as fire assistance. Maybe the Solyndra newly unemployed folks from his buddy's company can come help-part of his "retraining" BS he promulgated last night while I had to re-swallow my dinner several times. That's my complaint-spend spend spend-EXCEPT anything for Texas because he hates us. We could be frying in fires and he'd do nada.

I'm sorry if my post left anyone out. I received a friendly reminder that the volunteers are not the only ones out there putting there life on the line for us. Don't get me wrong here, this reminder was well taken and I should have included everyone involved. There are paid FF's, DPS, Montgomery and Harris County LEOS and can't leave out Magnolia PD, Tomball FD I heard has been a hudge help as well. There are so many others that should get credit. I wish I could name them all.
In my book no matter if these people get paid or not they are Heroes. And again I thank them all!

Hey I agree with you 100%, I say screw'em all and do pretty much what we are doing now and that is taking care of ourselves.
It's great to see all the little groups from all over the State collecting donations for those that lost everything, but than again this is Texas and dats how we roll!

We need to say thanks for all the different firefighters in the waller magnolia area also. I understand there are over 200 different stations volunteering over there.

I drove thru there yesterday.. man it looks bad. The entire east side of town is charred.. no leaves.. no leaf litter on ground.. just black trunks, dirt, and ash. I'll take some pics going back through there tomorrow ... driving to Hackberry
