Any recomendations on a decent $40 spinning reel?

My reel is locked up and it's been acting a fool lately so I don't even want to try to take it apart. I've made it known that I'm getting a fancy new rod/reel like the cool kids have for my birthday so I just need something decent to hold me over. I'd like to spend about $40 but I could go $50 if need be. They had 6 or 7 at academy but none jumped out and said buy me. Don't know if it helps narrow it down but I carry 2 rods with me, my bait caster then the spinner and the spinner sees about 75% of the use. It'll be hung on a 6'6" rod and it'll have 15lb braid I'll hook about every kind of lure or bait to it over the course of it's life. I try to take decent care of my stuff. This is the one I'll grab if no one has any suggestions.

Walmart has the penn reel combo around the $40 area, the rod doesnt last but the reel goes on, and on, and on .....

Personally, all my spinning reels are the Shimano Sierra or Shimano Sonora. The Sierra's are 29.99 at Academy and have served me well. The Sierra is cheap, semi-durable, and efficient. My Sierra's have been dunked in the surf, dropped onto pavement (courtesy of my cousin) and has seen many trout and reds, but after an overnight rinse and a little oil, they still run smoothly. The Sonora sees more of the heavy redfish action and is more expensive but makes up for it in durability.

Get th 400FB Sonora they are sweet picked up two for the kids and i like them.I think i paid 40 bucks for them at A-cat-to-me!

The Shimanos are always well made. I've also been hearing a lot of good stuff about the Okumas. Go give them a side by side examination and see what you think.

The new Penn cheaper models are made in China. They are a much poorer quality than Penn's reputation would lead you to believe. It is sad.

I moved to Shimano myself and I've never been disappointed at even their cheapest reel.

Damn if the winch on my truck ever wears out I'll get one of those bad boys. As an amateur machinist I must say yummy.

I'd go with all shimano if possible. However I bought a Stinson for a surf reel (larger model) and it was surprisingly good quality. It had 9 bearings, was very smooth, waterproof drag, an all around good reel for the money.

Shimano sonora. Van Staal-yep for $700-1000.

All I use for med tackle is Daiwa Crossfire 3500s. $25 at Academy, and I prefer them to the Stradics and Penn Spinfishers I have used before.

Try them, I think you will be happy.
