I recently got a Curado and I spooled it with some 10lb Fireline since I have a bunch lying around the house (purchased them at a store closing sale in Florida). I love this line on my spinning reels. However, when fiddling around with the drag system, I noticed that the line buried itself into the other line when pulled on. Is that ok? I haven't thrown it yet and I am probably going to try it in my pool, but I am a little hesitant to try out for real especially since it might be an issue. Thoughts/ Comments?

Baitcast Line Question

I would say it could, I seldom use anything under 30# in braid because it has the diameter of 10# mono...where 10# braid is going to be extremely small (maybe the diameter of 2# mono), and for a baitcaster and heavier plugs, yes...it probably will bury itself and be a problem would be my guess.Don't be a Nancy!

well for a screen name like scumLORD you post a good answer. LOL
not all braids are creeated equal.. some are better for spinners. The ones better for spinners are softer and don't cast well on baitcasters. The best on spinners is FINS XS and suffix 832... they are smoother and more flexible without being spongy... it's the spongy-ness of braid that allows it to dig in to the spool.
The best for bait casters is FINS Windtamer and Suffix original. suffix original is the easiest to get a backlash out of so it's great for starting out... FINS (IMHO) will get you a little more distance while still haveing less backlashes than the softer lines. it does help to at least use 30lb.. but going up to 50 is helpful to that as well. Mike Douglas of Baad Marine Supply .com prostaff uses FINS 50 in windtamer for casting reels.

A name that I have used on the internet for a long time in various places because it usually sticks. Mono is an obsolete technology just like CD's. I also picked up a copy of your big trout video a few weeks ago, there was some segments with good info. I'll let you know when I get in the 30 in club.

I've been using 30lb Power Pro for years with no issues on curados, chronarchs, calcuttas and spinning reels. I've never used any braid smaller than 30lb and haven't had any issues with it digging into the spool. Once you get used to braid its great. Topwaters are much easier to work and you don't get tired out near as quick as when fishing with mono in my opinion.

20lb windtamer spooled tight never has issues on my baitcasters unless I leave the drag too tight and pull the hooks out of a trout's mouth. Happens way too often but I like to be able to horse reds through the grass and with 20lb braid I can horse them all I want without the braid digging in.sigpic
