Yeah, like reeltime said, I'm a real arse . . . especially to kayakers. They come by, usually in their kayaker gangs, throwing big wakes and making a general ruckus.

The SLP county park used to be a KOA campground. That's why people still call it the KOA

Bright Light is close, and therefore the best place to get live bait no matter the price. You get it in Surfside and drive all the way to the Pass without an o2 system and your scrimps will be half dead.

For dead bait, I like Smilin' Jimmy's. They're the last one on the right before the bridge, where the old Pier 30 used to be, before they moved and made a bar out of a bait shop.

As far as Titlum-Tatlum goes, the channel the boats need is on the right as you come in (There is a new channel to the left that is a little tricky and most people do not know about), then it switches to the left at the small PVC pole close to even with the first camp on the bayou. As you round the hair pin turn after the last camp on the left, the channel switches to the middle. Not everyone is courteous out there, even if they think they are, so keep an eye on folks. Keep your PFD on and good luck!

Bright Lite has nice staff, a dog and a talking parrot. What more can you ask for? I would call ahead before making the drive out there to make sure they have bait.

I recently started paddling that area. I like it a lot. As far as wakes, I was out there 2 weeks ago and saw a boat come with-in 10-15 feet of a kayaker and rocked him all over from the wake. Crossing the pass can be challenging on a weekend too from all the boat traffic.

I have a question on the wake thing, i stay as far away from yaks as possible when in my boat, but my boat throws alot less wake at full throttle than when i slow down, and on two ocassions it almost lead to a fight between me and the yacker for going to fast, do yallprefer slow boats big wake or fast boat slow wake

This is because, like a majority of people, you do not slow down properly. I'm not trying to sound condescending here, so don't take it that way. I've piloted boats from 8 feet to 31 feet and have never had a problem controlling my wake. Here is the rant I reproduce every time the issue comes up:

Learn how to slow down PROPERLY for people fishing or boats at dock. Bring the throttle all the way back 'til it clicks. Now you're at idle. Let the bow settle completely. Now you can bump up the throttle just a tad for quicker speed, but don't let the bow come up. Do all this well before you come parallel to the people fishing or the boat at dock. You'll get the feel of it.

If you're not going to do this, then do not slow down at all. If you do not allow the bow to settle, you're just making a big wake.

Why do I rant about this continuously? Every single weekend I have people that pass by my dock on my little bayou. Some do everything right. Some slow down perfectly, but wait too late. Some just blow by like they don't care at all. Most people slow down to 1/4 throttle and wave kindly as if they are the most courteous people on the bayou. They do not notice my boat smashing into the pilings with their 2 foot wake. They are nice people, but ignorant. Don't be that guy.

Another thing, If you run into people fishing RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAD GUM CHANNEL in a constricted body of water, do the above well in advance and kindly ask them which direction you should pass. Every once in a while, they will yell at you anyway, but they are the idiots fishing in the channel and you've done the courteous thing. So just smile and don't let them ruin your day.

The Bait at the bridge is always good quality. I go as fast as I can everywhere so quit fishing in the channell!! HEHEH!!! You are responsible for your wake. If you spend all your time worrying about all the idiots out there you will go crazy! Just wave an let it go. Also remember you have the right to operate your boat in a controlled and safe manner and if it means running the middle of a channell at what ever speed then so be it!! Just my opinion.

This will be my first year at TSU, I transfered from a school in Indiana, will be a junior. I havent had much experience around boaters considering I've had my yak less than a week. I've been fishing a spot in a channel because of the constant action, BUT i fish the edge of it. I dont expect boaters to slow down when im out there, and they dont. The wake from the boats havent been an issue, I'm okay with whatever speed they go as long as they pass at a safe distance

Ya i know thise things, I never throw wake in a place wear someones boat would get damage, and as far as yaks, if im in a bayou or skinny waterway I'll throttle all the way back down and proceed to a comfortable minimum wake pace, but the ones in the intercoastal are the ones who get so ticked off, they will be all the way on the left and i will go all the way to the right two barges could fit inbetween us and i will still get the finger!! If im in a kyaker's paradise of an area i have no problem even going to a straight idle speed, but in the ICW over in east bay when I am all the way to one side and u on the other? sorry but thats how i feel,

Where have you been having constant action in a kayak? I haven't had much luck lately.
