  • Something a lil different...from 1980!

My old 5'6" Lightning Bolt thruster from 1980 got a redo....dings repaired, bottom reinforced, and tail cracks reglassed... plan on giving it a go next time we have a lil bump in the surf...just like the old days...well, minus the flat stomach and hair!

I surfed a little in the early 70s.Second time a board hit me in the head it was over.Around 89 I had a custom board made for my 16 year old son.Made by Meeks.Just wonder if its the same Meeks that has the Boston Whaler shop now.Let us know.Like to be there for the wipeout.

5'8"...... damn, I'm lucky to paddle out on a 9' Hawaii noserider. I do have my sights set on a 9'6" Walden magic!

I had a board made through a friend of a friend....West Surfboards of Oceanside. Guy is originally from here though...7'3" with extra floatation...a pseudo-funboard but with a fast look and a rocket tail...did I mention the extra flotation part?

When I rode that 5'6" kenny...I weighed 155 soaking wet...at 200, it'll be a challenge! Although looking at it now, it does have quite a bit of thickness...and with the right surf.....who knows. The guy that did the repairs said he had a lot of lookers checking it out at his shop and wanted to try it...first $1000 they can all they want!

Ron Meeks owns Meeks Surfboards and he's out of Hawaii now. John Meeks owned Meeks Marine but sold it about 3 years ago before passing from Lou Gehrigs Disease in 08. Shop is just a repair place now and is still in the general location...just down the street. They quite possibly were related, I don't know that. His daughter Miriam went to school and played soccer and basketball with my daughter at Creek.

Awesome! Love retro boards. Surfed a 7'0 single fin for about 2 years before selling. Have been in process of shaping new sub 6'0 singlefin for a while.

cool! glad to see that there are a few surfers on the site.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Your board looks great Monte. I need to dust off my 10' Fry and get out there. We need to go when we get some storm swell this fall.
