Red on Live Mullet

I have fished with Croaker rigged carolina way but never live Mullet for Reds. With Croaker they hit it and run, you wait 3 or 4 seconds and set the hook. Do they treat live Mullet the same way or is it a different technique?

They treat a bare hook the same way if they are hungry.

No.I haven't met to many red's that didn't set the hook.My fav bait is mullet for soaking.If you can find crabs go with that too.

Towards the end of the season when the reds run in big schools, we free-line baby mullets of 3-5 inches and use them as crank baits. I mean cranking fast with your fastest reel! "Skip fishing" we call it. It's an explosive hook-up, better than a popper lure.

Kinda a lot of work but it's only for when you can see the reds moving quick on the flats.

Don't know who invented it but the last 3 years some of the local guides been doing that down here by SPI.
