Congrats. That is one huge tarpon. I have fished Boca numerous times with Capt. Mark Bennett. I have probably caught between 12 & 15 tarpon in & around Boca. Have fished the pass, beach front, and back bays. My largest was around 140 lbs. So to get a 200 + on your 1st is outstanding. My 1st ever tarpon caught down there was around 100 lbs, and is on my wall because at the time, I did not know if I would ever be back to catch another one. So that is my next goal... A 200 +.

HUGE FISH! I've caught 3 in my life. 12 inches, 15 inches, and 29 inches. All 3 times I was really upset when I brought them up, especially the last one. It was night time and I thought I had a 36 inch speck. I did hook on about 80 lbs 'Tween the Rivers several years ago. But I got one jump and it was gone. I can't imagine how you felt landing that sucker!

There are a lot of tarpon off Texas but they seem to run smaller than those in Florida. I haven't caught one this year mostly because of this dang wind, and I have a theory that the freeze and red tide has the bait way off. Traditionally a late season sport for us when the surf goes flatter and you can mark them rolling and jumping.

In the old days they used to run right up the SLP in massive droves ... not so many these days.

Lots of big tarpon off Galveston July-October 15 with September being the best. When it's calm, we catch em.
