What do you think about these offshore wind turbines as a fisherman?
New structures for fish to gather?
Would we even be allowed to get close to them for fishing or diving?

Looks like a waste of money to me...3 reasons I say NO!
1.See the ones in South and West Texas and half of them arent turning due to maintenance issues...think of what it would take to keep those running in a wet salty enviroment.

2.First hurricane and they'll be on the beach or floating around out in the Gulf.

Alternative power is mostly a scam. I think the money is in the federal subsidies. The originating company gets theirs upfront and doesn't care if they don't work or wash away.....

Actually there were three of them there back in the late 80's, right at the city limits on Bluewater Hwy.

The story I heard was they didn't make any money. Abandoned, deteriorated, and eventually scrapped out.

Don't get me started on Wind turbines Monte... LMAO I'm a gas turbine guy myself working for the cleanest burning epa friendly company in the nation... You are talking about 3/4 to 1 megawatt per wind turbine on a average... You tell me how many wind turbines it would take...? They will have to build a awfull lot of those useless piece of chits... just one 2 on 1 (2 gas turbines & 1 steam turbine) calpine facility is 500 megawatts... So you would be looking at a lot of the gulf of limits to fishing for obvious reasons... Just ask the poor folks who made a bad decision on leasing Siemens & GE their land to build those POS on... It sounds all good with GREEN energy BUT it takes a lot of land to build or water in this case to make enough energy to make it worth it... IMO it is not worth it... When the gearbox fails there is a lot of oil in them that will go straight to the gulf... And a gearbox on a wind turbine in the gulf or in south texas has a very short life spand... To many moving parts and the salt air corrodes them in no time flat... Just my .02 cents...

Why pay once for a commodity, when they can bilk us at least twice.

Location makes about as much sense as building a nuclear PP on quicksand,....over a fault zone.

I support a private company going after this. I dont think the government should be able to tell them no. I also dont think the government should subsidize it.

The maintainence costs would be high but the wind is free. If done right it will increase supply and decrease energy prices.
