  • One Eyed Redfish

I sight casted to this oversized redfish over the weekend...

Upon closer inspection I noticed it was missing an eye...

I've seen photos of other people catching fish with one eye before but this was the first time I have ever caught a red that was missing an eye.

Sweet fish JP! You need to show me the ropes when it comes to sightcasting sometime.

A couple years back a buddy caught an "evil eye" red. Both sides were like that!

Also got this flounder during the run a while back. Someone must have set the hook on him real hard before I caught it.

I am done hijacking your thread

We need to get out there. Sight fishing is easy especially with a kayak. You can sneak up on fish without them ever knowing you're there. That second photo of the flounder gives me the creeps. Pretty nasty stuff.

I've seen birds try to peck the eyes out of fish, and indeed if there's a fish-kill, the seagulls eat the eyes first. The osprey is a good hunter put sometimes has bad aim, too, hunts with its very sharp talons. But usually I think it's foul hooking that causes the eyes to go, I think. For example, I'm always catching Spanish mackerel hooked in the side, because it's a slash feeder.
