Have no idea about the power but I would bet it has something to do with the broken water line along 45 that apparently supplies all of us our fresh agua

BTW did they tell all the big islanders to ration water too, ie no boat washing etc, till further notice because of it...I cant go fish and NOT wash the yellow nanner sled off...its sinful to even think of much less attempt

Pole fires. Nice. That explains it. The girlfriend just stopped by my parents house in Santa Fe. Power has been out there too.

The wind blowing as hard as it has been, its funny watching my 6 weeks old lab pup navigate the nuances of goin number "2"

The outage on the entire West End started about 3 am this morning and Centerpoint is saying (at least right now) that power will be restored by 2 pm.

FINALLY!! We've been off and on in Jamaica Beach for the last couple days, and were completely out from about 5am until when it just got turned back on.

This time they say it's salt build-up on the lines and at generating stations, so they're power washing. Since they KNOW it will happen again, WHY the fark don't they wash the chit every once in a while BEFORE the power goes out.
Next time it will be wind causing galloping lines or the cat farting or some other lame azz excuse.

I hear ya Kenny, and them gallopin' farts is NOT the answer I was looking for! But we're in the same boat down here by SPI, at least the humidity is down below 20% now. In a day or two, +80% humidity and same old outages. It has cost me a computer hard drive ($400), the control panel on my drier ($250), and is causing my fluoro light ballasts to go spastic. No rain in sight, this could be a bad spring and early summer, hot as Hades too. Hope the outages don't fry my A/C capacitor again ($300).

To their credit, our power pole company AEP is doing some spraying on the main distribution lines, got a very cool water cannon I'd love to shoot. Them guys are good, great aim! A blast of a few seconds and they move on. But still, I got 3 outages in the last 48 hours. The poles do look cool at night, sparking and sometimes flaming. I don't walk under transformers no more!

Guess I shouldnt complain about all of the rain here is Louisville, KY area. Enjoying all of the green. There is a pond at the park we are at that I want to fish when the rain stops. Sopposed to be bass in it. Saw the grass carp when I walked the dogs between rain showers. B-tards are freaking huge.

Hearing about the tornadoes yesterday and almost 200 people dead makes me feel bad complaining about a couple hours of no electricity.

Does salt on the lines cause them to start sparking?

The coating of salt on the insulators and poles provides a conductive path to another wire or gorund. As the charge travels about, you may see sparks as the charge arcs along the path or at the other wires.

                          Interesting...

I hope you use the word "may" loosely... The other night the contacts on the poles to powerlines sparked orange every 2 seconds. Every pole down the line had 6 sparks shootin out. CRAZY

"May" is my knee jerk CYA term. The spectral color of burning sodium is an intense yellow.

You have your heart in the right place. This is nothing compared to others problems and sorrows. This has been one h ;; of a spring for our neighbors. I am keeping them in my prayers tonight.
