  • Spoonflies trailer on Topwaters...

Several years back a buddy of mine was tying spoon flies on to the back of topwaters on maybe a six to eight inch leader off the back hook. Fished Port O. Said this helped him pick up a lot of trout that would tail slap the topwater or just swim at it. Anyone use this technique with any success?

I've found that any trailer jacks with the action of the topwater, just like picking up a piece of grass. I'm sure it works, I just don't like the way it fishes.

Never tried it, but I agree with Kenny.

I have a friend that fishes Baffin weekly and he throws a She Dog with a paddle tail on a 12 inch dangling line and he consistently beats the crud out of trout and reds. It works, but it does mess up the action of the topwater. I say go for it!
