  • Gulp shrimp

I have a hell of a time getting them rigged right. The smaller ones are not that much of a problem but the big 4in are impossible to reel in without spinning. The only way I can stabilize it is if I put a heavy arse jig head but then it sinks and falls like a brick.

    Anyone else have the problem?

Are you saying that you are trying to work a live shrimp like you would a lure?

The Berkley gulp Alive! plastic shrimps. They seem to always have bent tails and it causes em to spin when you reel em in.

There used to be a jighead that had small "fins" that stabilized the artie. I haven't seen them around for a while though.

Me too! Lately I've taken to hooking jumbo white and ghost bay shrimp in the tail, free lining, no weights.

Lose the stinking Gulps, man. I like Tipetide and other brands, runs straight as an arrow if you put them on straight and not all kaddywumpus. Gulps are for putting on a popping cork IMHO.

I did like the jig heads with the fins but I try to find the weedless kind, uses a short section of 30# mono you just stick into the plastic. Fish s-l-o-w, just off the bottom, maybe bump the sandy parts a little....

Put a small to medium size swivel in the line above the lure, it will still spin some and not look natural but it won't twist your line. If it's far enough up then it shouldn't affect the action of the lure on the bottom.
Yeah, and all the muchachas they call me big pappa, when I throw pesos their way!
