Moved to the keys about a month and a half ago and just now got around to fishing. The spring break season was nuts here. I was working 70 hrs a week which left little time to fish. Last night after work me and some buddys started talking fishing at the bar. After a few drinks we decided the hell with it and started getting our gear ready. We put the boat in the water around 10:30 and after a few pit stops we were fishing at 11:00. Our first stop was a small mangrove cut that connected two bays. There was some bait present so we started fan casting the area. I kept hearing bait getting busted right against the bank so I pitched my lure up there and it got hammered. After a few hard runs the fish showed itself, a 40 lb tarpon. Between the hard, line stripping runs, and the tail walking I almost had a heart attack. Unfortunately after about a minute the poon broke me off. We hit some other spots including green under water lights but struggled to hook another fish. Now that my friends and I have some time off these fish are in trouble
