  • Good bye my friend

just found out this afternoon that JW "Hooksetter" Wier passed away last month on the 19 from complications with a bout of pneumonia. I new he was sick and in the hospital but told Sweety (his Wife) to keep me updated. I changed my cell number to a local number here at that time and she did not have my new number. Last night I was in my rod shop and listening to his new album and called his cell and left a message for him to call me back. Well she called today and told me the news. He was a great song writer, musician. He loved fishing and all things outdoors. I was proud to call him my friend and am going to miss him allot. I am not sure I will miss the left sided political views though. Rest well my friend and founding member of the ABWF and I'll be ready for your music when I get there.

I was really saddened to hear that. J.W. and I had some good times together back in the old ABWF days.
We didn't always catch fish but we always caught a buz. Terry do you have a link to his last cd? I downloaded it a while back and can't find it now. I think we were actually mentioned in one of his songs. RIP Hooky.

That was pretty funny. 12:05 AM, August 16, 2004. Doesn't seem that long ago.

Just saw this thread and wanted to express my condolences. I was fortunate enough to work with this guy for a couple of years, and was saddened when I heard the news here in my office. I never knew he was a member here. RIP.

Hi All, this is JW's Sweetie. My Hookie and long time companion of almost 31 years died of pneumonia on 19th January. We gave him a good send-off and took him to his ancestral home in Weir, Mississippi and put him to rest beside his mom & Dad. It was way too soon for him to go for sure and we are all trying to cope with the loss. He was already working on another "new" CD, since he had put out "John's Boat" before Christmas. If anyone wants to order his new CD - John's Boat, please contact me at nancybork@yahoo.com. or if you just want to visit, ask questions regarding JW, etc. I can also be reached at 832-428-2555. Oh, yes, many of you are in his songs. All the adventures we had together usually ended up in his songs. We were so looking forward to fishing this spring and summer and were making plans to purchase a home on the west end Galveston Island. He was also looking forward to teaching the 2 grandsons saltwater fishing this season. Well, So far, 2011 stinks!
