Aloha Y'all. My name is Mikel, my wife Cathy and I recently (February) moved to League City from the BigIsand of Hawai'i. I did extensive shore fishing there primarily for Ulua (giant jack crevalle),and some kayak fishing mostly for ono (wahoo) and ahi (yellow fin tuna) and ulua. So now I am in the learning process of bay fishing, and eventually some off shore kayaking. I discovered this forum today and just joined. I have Sunday,Monday and Tuesdays off,so if any of y'all are not working any of those days and want to wet a line.please give me a shout. Happy to be part of the West End Anglers! Aloha,Mikel

Welcome. Hope you catch a lot of fish here. Are you using bait or artificial. Lord Bless.

Welcome Mike! Here are some of our local names.....Snot Sharks (gafftop sailfish) Big Uglys (Black Drum), Convicts (Sheepshead), Smacks (Spanish Mackerels), Pluggers (Cigar-smoking Dentists who fish from daylight to dark and won't bring you back to the dock during the day no matter how tired you are or if you have a heart attack in his boat while you are fishing). Welcome aboard Mike, We have a 100yr epidemic on seaweed this year so the surf has been un-fish able. Bad timing for your move. It will come around. If you eat fish, have an open mind about what you hear is edible. There are some snobs on the Gulf Coast who only think Speckled Trout are the only thing worth catching or eating. We have many fish that taste wonderful.

Croaker headed , scaled , gutted and deep fried in corn meal is a good marine fish to eat considering taste and texture . The crispy tails are fish potato chips our children would fight over .

Welcome Mikel! Quite the move. My mom made the same move when she was a child. Funny story; my mom's older sister was born in Hawaii before it was a state, and my mom was born there just after it was admitted.

I eat more than specks. Croaker is only good for catching more specks though. I'm not sure about your snob comment. Hhhmmm...

Aloha Y'all, and thanks for the warm welcome. I felt Blessed when I discovered the web site yesterday ( I was searching for Tide Charts), and just got a good feeling from reading y'all's mission statement. The welcome that y'all have extended has only fortified that feeling. I look forward to meeting and fishing with y'all! I fish both bait and artificial's ,just like my rod to bend and my reel sing! Have a great day, mikel
