I moved to Houston earlier this year and I have been drivng down to fish in and around Galveston at least a couple times a month.

I always fish on the west end of the island. I am very new to saltwater fishing but I am hooked. Heading out to San Luis Pass to bank fish this afternoon. Any suggestions on where to go?

    Thanks,

    Peter

Keep reading the posts on this site and you will gain valuable info on wade-in spots in West Bay......careful of the currents in SLP, they can be very dangerous, and I suggest you use a life preserver while wading there. Get to know some of the members here and maybe some of them will let you tag along on their next wade. WELCOME PETER!

Galveston side drive down to the beach and back up past the bridge by the water. go to the point and fish from there if not already someone there or try the mouth of the cut for flounder or reds. not the best spot for this time of year but you never know. welcome and good luck!!!!!!
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Welcome Peter! Wish I could think of some good bank spots for you to try but all that come to mind is the seawall rock groins on a light northerly wind. Can't go wrong with live shrimp as a bait choice as an alternate to lures. Try to make fishing fun and don't be dissapointed if their not cooperating. Sooner or later it will come together for you.

WELCOME ! You say bank fishing ... Like not get in the water ? If you don't wade in the water your chances of places to go and catching fish go way down . Get a HOOK N LINE fishing map from academy for spots to fish , wade fishing .

Sea wolf park , pier or embankment fishing . Pay to enter . 61 st street little bridge between hwy 45 and seawall , park on offats bayou side . Rocks to get hung up on near shore . Use a cork . Groin at the end of 8 mile road jutting into west bay . Rocks to hang up on again . Rock groins along the seawall and 21 street fishing pier . Fish from the bank of the Diversionary Canal which is near Harborwalk canal homes . People fish from the bank under the 2004 bridge at Chcolate Bayou . You can fish from the rocks on the channel side of the galveston ferry landing . Walk the rocks of the north jetty ... Long walk . Fish the base of the south jetty at the break in the rocks . Don't slip and break your neck . You can call the Galveston Yacht Club to ask if you can pier fish there . That's all I can think of .

Seawolf Park is your best bet .

                  TC Dike on Channel Side.
Lots of small rocks but if a person can cast 50yards with live mullet or mud minnows the rocks aren't so bad.

In Freeport off 690 Levee Road. Road891 is Cone Island. Lots of Oysters but extremely tough wading but can be done if you are tuff.
Great Kayak place in winter but if you get upon the snot fish in the skinny water the bottom of your Kayak will catch hell.
At the very end you can drive too and face the same oysters but deeper channel water. Used to be one of my favorite bank places year round.
I've been skunked and I've limited out.
Jetties there are another place but rocky and hard to land fish. Good place for fish.

Places on Bastrop Bayou also are great to fish in winter, but you may have to do research on landowners to the best holes.
                  Good under the lights.

Welcome Peter. Good info here. Wade fishing is fishing stealth. I've caught fish right in front of me. All I use is artificial. Cheaper than buying bait, or spending time looking for bait. You have to learn to shuffle your feet and not walk normal. Good way to step on stingrays. Erratic movement attracts sharks. Which means you goof around and do dumb things, you're going to get hurt. Having the fish to close to you is not good. Not trying to scare you, but remember you're in their territory. There are many good fisherman here. Ask questions to learn. See what they use and how to use it. The only dumb questions are the ones not asked. There are also questions to be sarcastic, but you'll only get sarcastic answers back. Hope to see you in the water someday. Lord Bless.
