Hi Everyone - I`ve been surfing on the site for a for a while picking up little tips here and there. I love this site and the culture! Originally I`m from Houston, I moved to the hill country 10 years ago. The thing I miss the most is saltwater fishing. The last time I was down there was after the hurricane. I know I know that's way too long! Anyhow I`m taking a trip down there next weekend with a buddy of mine. We will be fishing in kayaks, the plan is to try the surf if it not to rough. If so, we`ll put in on the bay. I have a couple of questions I`m hoping someone can answer. #1 Where is a good spot to launch the kayaks on the bayside? My buddy is 63 yrs old with a heart condition so we don't want carry them far. A boat ramp would be ideal? #2 - Another thing I miss is good seafood! Any suggestions on a good local restaurant? The plan is to fish with mullet for reds and shrimp on a popping cork for trout and I`m not opposed to fishing with lures. Any suggestions/fishing tips would be greatly appreciated! BTW - Is there a store where I can buy West End Angers apparel or can I only buy online? Thanks for letting me join and learn. I look forward to the many great posts!

Welcome!
To solve both questions at once, try Waterman's restaurant. They've got a boat ramp on lake Como that's a great put in for yaks and great food, although I might be a little reluctant to go in after a long day of fishing. Or Louis Bait Camp near Omega Bay and Bayou Vista. You can pick up live bait and use their ramp. They've also got some of the best burgers around these parts. Lots of yakkers put out from there."Curmudgeon only pawn in game of life."

Welcome !
I assume you have launched a kayak in the surf before ? Main thing is to not let the kayak get cock - eyed sideways to the waves or you will roll it over and dump everything that is not lashed down . Same thing coming in . I have a rudder which helps to keep it straight into the waves . Take a long enough anchor rope .
On the bay side , launch behind SLP toll booth and fish the guts and flats . The trail to the "beach" there can have some soft sand to get stuck on but I see two wheel drive vehicles make it .
Galveston island state park and fish Dana Cove . There is a short trail to the water . This is on the opposite side of Lake Como Curmudgeon mentioned . Investment in a two wheel cart made to wheel kayaks around would make moving a kayak easier .
Fat Boys public ramp under the causeway . I hear the bait store is closed . You put in there and work to the right along the shore or out into Jones Bay .
Watermans as mentioned use to be good but I haven't been there since it reopened . Gaidos on the seawall . Sea Isle west End Marina . Personally , my favorite place is Pappadeauxs Cajun restaurants . I have a birthday ( 64 , ugh ) on the 26 th and that's where we're going . They are in Houston and outlying areas . I don't know about Galveston though. . Papas restaurant is good seafood also . Just not Cajun .
Good luck , wear a PFD , and have fun with your pard . Post up the trip .GEORGE A. BRANARD, COLOR SERGEANT, CO. L, 1 ST TEXAS INFANTRY, HOOD'S TEXAS BRIGADE, C.S.A. : S.C.V.

Welcome!!
I'd launch at the old fat boys ramp under the Santa Fe RR bridge ( right before tiki island on 45 S). Fish the marshes and reefs around Jones lake.
As far as fresh seafood on the island, Clarys restaurant on Teichman rd ( first exit when you get off the causeway then take a right - just down on the left) is a great place albeit a little pricey. I stay out of the tourist traps along the seawall. Floyd's just opened a new restaurant at Harborwalk that's supposed to be good too (little more laid back than clarys). It's off hwy 6 about 2 miles back towards Hitchcock from bayou vista on the left.
You can order WEA gear online right here in the site in the online store.
Go get em!Shut up and FISH!!
