Hello everyone, I'm 20 and recently got into fishing since last yr. Been fishing around small creeks, rivers and lakes ever since.. and decided to went saltwater fishing last 2 weeks ago at a bleach along San Luis Pass and caught my 1st!!! red-fish ever!(using catfish rig) and that's where the addiction start . Only surf and wade fishing for the time being while gathering more infos on the Forum. I'm really interested in artificial baits but the only problem is where to use it and when to use it. I'm like a newborn baby when it coming to saltwater fishing so if you guy have any tip, location, time, etc. Hit me up.
FYI, My favorite fish is any fishs that taste great! hahaha!

Oh heck yeah, You will have to build your tackle box slowly or else youll go broke, spoons a few topwaters and imitation plastics with a few sizes of lead head also gulp works well.I cant begin to scratch the surface of the available combinations out there,Swing by one of the tackle stores in this area and ask for suggestions! see ya out there! And remember anything that works in fresh will get you by in salt as well!

I agree with Rollo, just don't start buying baits every time you hear someone said they caught a fish on XXXX. Make it simple, get some 1/4oz jig heads and get different color plastics (my favorites are Plum and Chartreuse, Salt and Pepper and something with black). The reason is, when the sun is out throw something flashy, when the water is off color throw something dark, when it is clear, throw bright colors. If you know how to throw top waters, go with the super spook JR. in bone, clown and black/sliver or all black. Finally suggestion, stay on the board and try hooking up with some guys and learn the water. Oh yea, BE CAREFUL wading around the pass. Fish to the east of the toll booth only if you walk in on the south shoreline and fish with a partner.

Gonna give ya the best advice of all bro. Stick with the artificials, learn how to FISH for cryin out loud. Don't become one of these ostentatious croaker throwers that wanna boast about their catches. Croaker fishermen have no respect at all for their quarry. It's just simply not fishin bro. It's STANDING. Take your time, evolve into a FISHERMEN. Anyway, find protected shorelines that have some grass, sand, and some shell wouldn't hurt. Target your isolated grass pockets with some depth fluctuation, work them pretty meticulously, don't stay in one spot too long though, keep movin til u find fish. Grab some heddons, particularly the speck pattern, (ive caught em on this pattern in every condition) for the morning and evening bite. During the sweltering arduous mid day hours throw your different plastics targeting deeper water. Pick up a couple different paul brown lures for when it cools off. I catch a lot of pigs in the late winter and early spring on the devils bro. At eight bucks a pop they are worth it, the pink one I think its the devil 08, and the silver chart one the devil 07 (bond). Put em in the water, youll see how to work them. Tight lines bro!

Welcome. I agree with Rollo. Go with people here that fish with Artie's. You can learn a lot by asking questions and watching their moves. Everyone has something to contribute. Everyone has their own style. No one is wrong, it's what works for them. Lord Bless.

Fishing is about what you want to get out of it. Not what others think you should be using or not. The older you get the more you'll realize there's truth to the saying "to each their own".

I use Artie's about 99 % of the time but I'm not above using bait and I'm dang sure not going to condemn or bad mouth people that do.

That's not what all of us here at Fish West End are about. So to that end I say "shut up and fish".
