  • How's it going!

I’ve been lurking around for a while now and decided now would be a good time to introduce myself. I have lived in the Gulf Coast (Brazoria County) area all my life; love saltwater fishing! Married and have (2) boys (ages 10 & 12) who love hunting and fishing too! I’m pretty green to fishing the “West End” area, for years most of my fishing had been concentrated on East Matagorda and occasionally West Matagorda. Hear lately I’ve been launching out of Bastrop Marina fishing Bastrop, Christmas and the interior areas associated within but haven’t yet ventured out into the West Bay area. Typically we drift fish but I’m not opposed to getting out and getting wet it’s just usually I fish with my wife and two sons so it’s more convenient to drift. I like to use plastics and Gulp products and occasionally we will do the live shrimp thing. I’m looking forward to getting out into West bay and learning the area but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a bit intimidating. It’s such a large body of water I’m a bit lost on where to begin. It’s so easy for me to say…Ah, let’s just go to East Matty due to being familiar with that area. Anyhow, aside from the normal “look for bait” and “slicks” if anyone has some info they’d like to pass along I’d be more than happy to hear it. We run a 24’ JH.

    Happy Catching to All!

Welcome aboard. Don't be intimidated by West Bay, you just have to get in there and work your way around. SLP area is tricky if you are not familiar with it, so I would recommend having someone that knows the area get in your boat, so you can get a trail going on your GPS. If you are fishing Bastrop, you can always head east on the intercoastal, which will open up to West Bay around Chocolate. Once you get into West Bay, you can always work that north shoreline back to Mudd Cut area, you can head to the southshore where there are several coves.

Welcome. I Started by reading the board when I first started fishing saltwater. I learned the areas by going and checking them out. I understand that in a boat it's different. Shell, reefs and other obstacles to look for. I only wade fish so I don't have to worry on loosing a lower unit. Good advice on getting someone that knows the area. Lord Bless.
