  • New to Galveston and Saltwater fishing

    Hey Guys,

I'm 26 and live up in Fort Worth, but my girlfriend just moved down here and now i'm staying here 95% of the time. I have only been saltwater fishing a few times and don't really know anything about it. I can catch largemouth bass all day long in freshwater and have been fishing my whole life, but this saltwater thing is a whole 'nother lifestyle! I have no clue what to fish for or where to fish in these winter months and would much appreciate any advice! Tips on when to go, techniques, where to go, how the tides affect the fishing, etc. I am always willing to go so if you need a fishing partner feel free to hit me up.

    Thanks,
    Chase

Take your bass skills to the saltwater and you should do just fine, even using the same baits, welcome to fwe!

There are some great articles written by guides in the forum that will give lots of help. There were some written by Aqua Pimp (Capt. Greg Francis) and The Shallowist (Capt Steve Soule). Do a search and look through their posts and you will learn a ton!
You could also hire one of them to take you out and you would learn pretty quick.

Reef is right. The techniques are virtually the same.

Google Steve Hillman's web site. He is a guide who not only knows how to catch a lot of fish but also posts a lot of good information about his trips on his web site along with pictures.

welcome sir!!!! try to fish during a fluctuating tide. Also it doesn't hurt to bring a few shimp to toss under a cork. as for jiggin your bass tactics should take over!!!!tight-lines..If ur interested I believe its Chester Moore who writes many good, highly specific, books over flounder, trout, wading, and I think his newest one is Hog Tactics. I learned a lot from his books

Reef Drifter is spot on there, I have seen so many Bass rigs & lures used in salt, with great success.

welcome aboard. i used to fish Amistad lake. one thing to remember is don't lip saltwater fish like you do a bass. they have very sharp teeth. i use Zoom super fluke and catch trout, sand trout, reds, flounder, ribbon fish, croaker. i also use H&H plastic lures. they catch the same thing. i like name brands like CAL, TTK, TTF, Zoom. saltwater assassins are OK, but they tear real easy (my opinion only). i wade fish, and if you want to get together let me know. when i first started fishing saltwater, people told me to count to 30 before setting the hook. i lost a lot of fish. if you feel the fish, set the hook. sharpen your hooks, it will improve your fishing. a lot of good information here. ask questions, and someone will answer. hope this helps. Lord Bless.
