I haven't used the Xpress, but the Mettles match up to my curados just fine. And if I have any problems with them, I can trade them in at Academy or throw 'em away and buy new ones. Look for them on sale soon.

Absolutely not. Stick with the shimano.

They don't last very long but work great when they are new.

Good beginner's reel and the price is right! Bearings are lacking and if you don't release the star drag when storing the drag washers memory will punish you badly. No match for the Shimano.

I agree shimano is superior -- I do use the mettles and manics but when they start giving me trouble I throw them away as opposed to fixing them. You can catch them on sale around the holidays for 25 dollars and most of the time (based on moderate use) can get about 6 to 8 months out of one before it craps out.

I recently had some rebuilt with Boca bearings and titanium drag washers, the Bocas are noisey but work very well with little maintanance and the drag washer upgrade works really well on heavy line peeling fish, the upgrade cost more than the reel but it was worth it considering what some high end equiptment will cost you and without these features to start with...but I still have to say I prefer my ol curados and they will also be upgraded in time! If you want to do any repairs or upgrades to your reels contact site sponser Fisher Angling as he is familiar with the upgrades mentioned!

They okay if you can find them on sale, but are not in the same class as Shimano when it comes to longevity and durability.

grab me one. Walmart is having a 32" flatscreen for 100 and change. The crowds are not for me. I will be killing ducks or sleeping in my deer stand.
