UPDATE: The compromised area has been ground away revealing the solid glass around the repair area. Multiple layers of glass were then laminated to both the inside and outside of the repair area in sufficient thickness to be sanded down to the final shape.Comment

UPDATE: the new glass has been sanded into shape (the pink you see is a sanding aid). Because this is a late model Yamaha, it is built from SMC (sheet molded compound) rather than traditional glass. In short, this means no polyesters or vinylesters will properly adhere to the hull. The repair is laminated in epoxy resin, and because gelcoat does not adhere well to either SMC or epoxy, the finish is paint. The customer requested that I repaint the entire bow section to help with nicks and scratches in the paint. The current pic shows it primed with 2k urethane high build catalyzed 4:1. once that layer is sanded in prep to receive finish, you will not be able to see the repair.

UPDATE: The final finish has been sprayed on in three coats, after 24 Hours, this will be wet sanded and compounded to the final, glossy finish. Even though it will look better than this, you can already see than finding a repair is effectively impossible.Comment
