Y'all mean I have to tell you this story AGAIN? Here's the short version:

My great grandfather was born in Madisonville and moved to Freeport on the late 20's. He used to take the train with my grandfather to see the Buffs play in Houston. They saw Dizzy Dean pitch in the minors. In case you didn't know, Houston was the Cards' AAA club for over 50 years. My grandfather moved to Port Sulphur, La. in 1934 where he met my grandmother. My dad was born there in '38. He and my grandfather would listen to KMOX AM out of St. Louis and hear the Cardinals games. Dad was a huge Stan the Man fan. Neither my grandfather nor his father ever made it to St. Louis to see a game. Dad got a job one Summer during college with Monsanto up in St. Louis and he was the first in the family to see the Cards live. He said when he came up from under the stands to see the diamond, there was Stan the Man, right in front of him. He says he felt that he had fulfilled a dream 3 generations old by finally making it there. I came along in '73 and really got interested in baseball when I was about 7. I'll never forget sitting with Dad and watching the Cards beat the Brewers in the '82 Word Series. Since this is the short version, I'll end the story here. I'm a 4th generation Cardinals fan.

No team in baseball has the tradition and enduring class the Birds on the Bat embody. Only the Yankees have more World Series wins. But they're Junior Circuit, the play in NYC, and use the designated hitter, so they don't count, nor do they have much class. If you hate the Cards, you just don't appreciate baseball. If you're jealous of the Cards, well . . . . . I guess that happens. I root for the 'Stros when they aren't playing the Cards, but they've been such a train wreck for the last many years that they're hard to watch.

Man, Adam out puts McClellan in the rotation and some young buck will take to the bullpen. Still doesn't look like a bad rotation until you glance at what the Phils have.

Saw Andy Pettitte at Fuddruckers sunday. Something I thought was kinda cool was when I looked over at him one time, the tv above him was on espn and he was all over it. He was with some guy with a custom Hackaberry rod and gun columbia shirt on. Figured him to be a guide. Looks like he was celebrating his retirement with a fishing trip and a big ole burger! Ha

We are hedging our bets on the old guys. Pitching will be a little worse, but hitting will be better.
