In my Union days, what I remember most was all the fine, expensive cars at the Union hall owned by the big wigs in the Union-to me, a capitalist business owner was a much better, nicer person than any Union boss or Steward I ever met. Time and a half after 8 and no guaranteed job, but boom pays for the best insurance that money can buy not just for duggles, but for his wife and kids too. Boom also just saw to it that Doug received a bonus equal to 20% of his salary. (much more than your 51 dollars a month SS raise) Doug drives a new 130K truck and doesn't pay a penny to drive, maintain, park etc. Boot allowance, 15.00 a day towards lunch, dental, eye, training, any paid family time needed. Paid vacations and sick leave without questions. Match his 5 to my 4% 401K. I would never agree to pay Doug for life because that is unsustainable. Doug is responsible for his retirement not me.

I will never guarantee anyone a job. In the last 10 years I have fired one employee because he was just a miserable human being and infected the team. I paid him a months salary when I didn't owe him squat. I lost another one to cancer. My employer (I don't own the company) paid the sick employee full scale for the year that he suffered through treatment and then gave his widow a year's salary over and above the life insurance policy that paid her as well. My lowest paid employee just started straight out of HS at 15.00 per hour with all of the above mentioned benefits with exception of a vehicle. He will be rewarded through his accomplishments and become a member of this family or he will not measure up in which case I will fire him and he can go get a union job.

Over the past decade I have made the owner a rich man and he rewards me well. is there such a thing as a guaranteed job? the only guarantee I know is my bills come every month and I had better figure a way for me to pay those bills and not count on someone else paying them for me.
I honestly wont be relying on the government retirement either, the way things are going the social insecurity will be bankrupt by the time I get to that stage.
