FDR was the first president to use government stimulus to intervene in the private economy. As a result, the policy prolonged the Great Depression. Despite that, yes he was a great 3-term president. He singularly had a huge influence on the democracy and politics, during and long after his terms in office.

FDR was ok....Hes way down the list as the "best president ever" in the minds of conservative thinking southern people.

Harvey-after almost 4 years, pointing fingers is getting quite old. It worked his first few teleprompter speeches, then just shows he is not truly a man. A real man accepts the way things are, takes charge and gets matters accomplished. A real man does not go through life blaming others for shortcomings. Obama had total control in his first 2 years and did nothing to kick start the economy-his Stimulus Plan is a failure and if you do not think so, then I am sorry for you because Obama wasted more money (OUR MONEY) than any previous POTUS in office.

I implore you to read up on Jeffrey Immelt and how your money was spent by Obama. Further, how can anyone want a welfare society that has ever worked for a living? Do you enjoy seeing your money go to illegal aliens? Do you want to encourage more welfare mommas because they are a voting bloc for Obama? Do you encourage and support racial division as Obama does? Do you support supplying assault rifles to Mexican Drug Cartels and then having the responsible parties deny their obvious role by citing "executive privilege"? I hope your answer is NO to each of the above questions and hope you see Obama for what he really is-a socialist leaning, demogogue that is only in office for himself and wants to force his ideals down our throats, whether we like it or not-just like ObamaCare.

My good and honorable friend, and( I sincerely mean that ), I honor your opinions as a good American and agree we have like views on more than one issue. I'm a Democrat because I believe in work for what you get in life i.e. a good days work for a good days pay. A person should have self dignity and not so much foolish pride that they turn their back on those less fortunate. I'm not speaking personally just generally about fellow man. If a person is truly a leech on society, they will eventually be outed for what they are and are doing. As for drug traffickers they haven't been slowed down since I was a young man therefore make cannabis legal for recreational use, tax and sell it with the alcohol in the liquor store for ages 21 and up. Take those funds and everyone will come out of the closet and we'll balance the national debt in three years.

Im still waiting to meet someone for Obama(Democrats) that "works" for a living and doesnt receive government assistance ($$$) of any kind, nor depends on the government to make a living.

A person should have self dignity and not so much foolish pride that they turn their back on those less fortunate.

Charity for our fellow man should be an individual personal decision, not a government mandate enforced at the point of a gun. I'm not being overly dramatic... if I refused to pay my taxes, if I refused to contribute to wlefare programs, and refused to show up at the IRS, or in court, law enforcement would come get me at the point of a gun. And if I resisted, they could go as far as killing me. Government has the authority to use lethal force in enforcing their policies.

And here is the result of government mandated charity:

1. Any taxpayer funded "charity" program is going to be subject to extensive corruption and abuse. (A historical example just to make it clear: Sheep farmers in Scotland each had their own land, but there was also a "common" area in the hills that was open to everyone to graze their sheep. It is not surprising that all the farmers ran their sheep on the commons as long as they possibly could, relieving their own pastures from grazing pressure. Result was that the "commons" were destroyed, grass eaten down to the roots. Do you think those farmers would have let that happen to their own land? No way. Private property will be cared for by the owner. "Commons" will be abused and trashed and cheated, "I gotta get as much as I can before someone else gets it". It is simply human nature.)

2. Once a caring individual discovers that his taxes are funding a corrupt and abused program, he begins to detest those who are cheating, and the feeling spills over to all those who take from the system.

So... liberal welfare programs steal my right to decide who should benefit from my hard-earned money. Again, I should not be forced to give charity. THAT is MY decision. When I have the right to choose, then I will not despise those who cheat, because I will give my charity only to those who I feel are not cheating.

I can accept that. The current "war on drugs" is not even close to a "war". We have got to make up our minds to either win the war or quit fighting. If society truly believes that drugs are so horrible that we need a "war" to stop it, then let's pull out all stops and win the damn thing -- Automatic death penalty for anyone who is caught with any amount of illegal drugs. Now THAT is A WAR that can be won! On the other hand, if we are not willing to go that far, then stop all this mamby pamby slap-on-the-wrist enforcement, legalize it, and tax it.

Since I am a free market libertarian, and socialism sucks, FDR is the WORST president we have ever had, and Obama is second. If Obama gets a second term, he'll have the opportunity to reverse the above.

Too often we as people don't think, but let our emotions determine our political stance instead of using logic and reason.

To come up with a reasonable consistent, and logical position of how society should work, the first question you need to answer is:

What do I as an individual owe to you, and what do you as an individual owe to me?

The question is much deeper than it appears, and deserves deep thought.

Thanks Harvey-we do agree on something regarding Politics-a bum is a bum! I just do not believe Obama has a true humanitarian agenda-I believe he has a Race Agenda and a Socialistic Agenda and he has done a complete disservice to the Citizens of the USA with his "policies" such as his Stimulus Plan which was a total failure, his welfare state plan to encourage more welfare recipients and his opening of our borders to illegals.
