Well folks it is that time again. I will be heading South to Encinal to my deer lease come Friday. This will be the 7th year on the lease and I am looking forward to it. We have done most of the work over the last 6 years. So we dont have much work to do.
We have 5000 acres with 7 year round feed/protein feeders. There are10 blinds with feeders and a couple of mobile spot that are hunted occasionally. We have our third tank finished now those tanks are around 3-4 acre tanks 30-40 feet deep. We added 2 -10 acre plots that are high fence which have been there for three years. We have lucenna planted in them and they are finally ready to be opened up.I will make the rounds and look for any potential maintenance that may need to be done. We have some does and spikes that will need the air let out of them.
I plan on airing some of them out this weekend to get the dirty work out of the way. I will be scouting for management deer for some of our lease members who want to send a geust down. I will also be looking for a trophy of course but I am just not that mad at them (yet)!
I will also be hunting arrowheads to add to my collection. That is usually a midday occupation while out in the field. I have some choice trout and redfish for the culinary fare which will be enjoyed by some of our landlocked members and no catching fools!!
So here I go off in the bush. I will be roughing it in my room with a flat screen and Sat dish. Storing my deer in the walk in cooler. Packing ice all the way from the ice machine. Eating off of junky plates fresh out of the dish washer. Sleeping jammed up in a three bedroom trailer with 7 beds and 3 people in it((in my own room). Im in the "A" trailer. Others member have another trailer("B" trailer).
Now having said that this is a result of years of our hard work and tons of cash invested by our lease manager and members. This is his weekend house. I am lucky enough to be in the "A" trailer .
On another note I look forward to being back at the lease.I really enjoy visiting with the Mr.Finley owner of the Callaghan ranch. He is a legend. The dude was part of the Last Calvary in WW2. I enjoy the drive into our pasture. I will bypass the bumpy 12 mile county road and enjoy my ranch hand access to the ranch. The 10 miles across the legendary callaghan ranch is very enjoyable.
Man I am getting goose bumps just thinking of it..
I know there are alot of fish who are at ease knowing I will be at the lease this weekend!!
