  • Legality of hunting West Bay

Hey guys, ive done searches for the past 3 days on various forums about what is public and legal to hunt and what is not. I have a spot in mind that is in a marsh but i do not know if it is private property or not, it is not posted. I've read that i it is a navigable waterway, it is public land. So is any place with water at high tide navigable? Please help me out here, on most of the 2 cool threads i saw people just gave sarcastic comments ( my interpretation ) and every other thread contradicted the others. Are the only criteria navigable waterways and 100yards from a public road?

I am also very curious about this. I have heard and read a ton of different things here and other places and so am still unsure. I know you can hunt public areas but to stay away from private property. I am not totally certain where these places are. And that you can hunt out of your boat as long as you're anchored and motor is out of the water. I would think the lakes off the intracoastal are fair game and I've heard about the guys at Hall's, but what about the south shoreline of the bay? I found where you can hunt in the Brazoria Wildlife Refuge but what about the south shoreline of Christmas Bay? Is it the same rules as West Bay? Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated because I have yet to hear any confirmed or concrete info on this that I feel comfortable and safe hunting legally

Glad i am not the only one! All the information is very confusing, in my post i am referring to the South Shoreline for the most part

Yea that area seems to be most difficult to find info on. I would like to be able to hunt it but my problem is I am not sure what is public and what is considered private. I'm hoping someone can clear this up

I'm not a duck hunter but with the amount of people on the south shoreline (wade fisherman, Kayakers, ect..), I would go somewhere else

IF hunting, the fisherman should watch out. And no, not every lake connected to the Icw is legal. Find the maps, it shows you. Contact game warden. Don't build blinds, its illegal.

What I meant was, the south shoreline isn't just for ppl fishing.

And nobody is going to tell you where to hunt. Lol I had the same questions until I got maps, talked to game wardens, and scouted

Yes, those who know for sure are not going to encourage internet spot-naming.

Go out there and try. Easier to ask forgiveness than permission

Be sure to bring a dove bucket to sit on, and the more/louder calling you do, the better/further it will pull birds!

And dealing with all the yahoos is fun. Ide rather hunt our lease but sometimes public is closer to home. Last weekend my brother ran into a man and a young man, and he was bragging to my brother saying he shot a " pintail and a mallard hen ", when it was a moddle duck and a buggar picker that he claimed was the pintail. HAHHAHA

I just hunt at the local ponds, but you get some looks . Especially when they are trying to hold a birthday party and it gets hard to work the birds when they stock those rainbow trout. Seems the only thing that will bring em in is white bread. Hope this helps.
