Youth Shotgun Recommendation

I am going to buy a youth shotgun for my older boys (11 and 8). The younger two (6 and 3) are relegated to the BB gun for a few years yet. I have been looking at the Remington youth models but only because that's what I started with. I've looked at the youth 1100 and the 870 both 20 ga.

Anybody have a recommendation or experience they can share? I'm leaning toward semi auto. My wife is relatively small so it may be more comfortable for her too.

Of course, I may just buy a full size Benelli and let them grow into it. I'm sure they won't mind if I borrow it.

870 youth is great! I shot one when I was young and now my neice shoots it and loves it and she us about to turn nine

870 you can't hardly break one and the pump will keep them from wasting shells and help them learn to shoot better. Also safer because it does not automatically load another live round.

Good info. If you are intersted in a 2nd hand 870express 20ga. youth, my fiance has one she might sell. Seems she likes the full-size 12 better!

X2 on that! My dad started me out with a 870, they are bullet proof. He only allowed me to load one shell at a time. Taught me to make the best of that 1st shot and reduced the chance of an accident.

870 may youth may be too much. I got one for Christmas when I was about that age and the first time I shot it, it threw me back to the ground. It easily kicks harder than an adult 12 GA.

I agree with Primer. I bought a youth sized 20 guage for my son to hunt ducks. If you shoot 3 in shells it will pound your shoulder. Just my .02.
