Went out this morning and found some active bait on a small flat. Picked off a few on top, but by 7, bait activity died off considerably. Moved around and ended up at a ledge with rocks and structure. Not much bait was present but, I figure they'd be there. Few casts in, I get a solid thud...and a miss.
Next cast with a 1/4th Oz truese goose assassin, I stick a rock and break off.
One more cast later, and THUMP! Peeling drag, and a small glimpse of the fish. I feel the weight and carefully play it out. Thoughts of a red swim through my mind. I get it closer...and it's a giant trout. A couple passes later, I pull up a 7ish pound trout, the biggest of the year so far.
With the lack of bait activity, I pick through some straggler fish and ended the day at 10 with 5 trout caught and released. All in time for a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit from Whataburger.
