  • Gotta Go!

I haven't been fishing in weeks and it's driving me crazy! I was planning on going today but I saw the wind forecast and decided to stay home.
Anybody up for a wade in the morning?
PM me if you're interested. I've gotta go.

Bruce, you really should clean out the hot tub in your back yard once in a while.

So I hit the water a little after sunrise today. I was expecting the north wind so I was surprised to find it coming from the southeast which meant I'd be casting into the wind. The water was pretty muddy as I'd figured and I saw hardly any bait.
I decided to check out a new lure a friend gave me so I tied it on and walked in. On the fourth cast I birdnested so badly that I couldn't pick it out so I sloshed back to shore and got my second rod from my car. I figured I'd switch to something easier to throw into the wind so I put on a full sized Super Spook and started slinging it out there. I worked it for about 10 minutes without a blow up and then the next cast the reel stopped but the spook didn't and broke off. I thought I must have backlashed again but everything looked fine so I tied it back on and went back to work. About 3 casts later it happened again. I examined the reel a little closer and noticed it was jamming so I headed back to shore and my car. Now I'm down 2 reels: one to operator error and the other to malfunction. Luckily, I carry a couple spares in the trunk so I got a third and strung it up on my rod and went back for more. On my way back in I saw the biggest, ugliest ribbon fish I've ever seen jump out of the water. Anyway, I switched to a corky and went back in to no avail. The only decent bend I got in my rod was from a plastic bag half filled with mud. Even the guys throwing live bait weren't catching anything. It was a pretty day on the water and my waders didn't leak, so I guess It wasn't too bad of a morning.

But you got out! Wished it would have been better for you.

I fished from the dock at the canal home this morning and got 1 Sandy and 1 small Spec. Packed up and going to head back to Houston with hopes of beating some of the Lone Stat crowd.

Bring those reels by later today. I think I can solve your problems my friend.

                          Bruce,
Thanks for posting a report like this. It makes me (and others) feel OK when we have siimilar, if not worse, days on the water.
                          Congrats on bagging the mud!
