Took my brother in law out for some redfish action. He lives in Austin so he only fishes twice a year(both with me) and I really don't think he fished before that. Anyway he always brings high winds or some kind of problem to the fishing trip to keep us from nailing them....All he brought this time was a lack of casting skill....I was worried at first because the tide was much higher than I was expecting with a NE wind for 3 days. Anyway got to the spot yes Chase that body of water between the Causeway and San Luis Pass! Hopped in and immediatly heard the loud splashes of hungry feeding reds. I chased the first one up a channel for what seemed like an hour(about 10 minutes probably) thought I had him on the far side when about 3 feet behind me he blows up on the grass scared the crap out of me. I pulled off a fancy sidearm across my body pitch and boom fish on. We decided to split up to cover more ground with the higher tides. I headed the right direction. We were about 40 yards apart when I see a nice flock of gulls over a big school of reds. I started yelling for him to get him to head my way. Not an easy thing to move fast in the mud but he finally made it. Of course the school was moving away from us. We finally get in front of them and set up. I told him to cast in front, and tell me when he hooks up. He makes a nice cast hooks up then I make my cast and boom double! Get both fish on the stringer and look for the school again but they broke up. Put on new plastics because they are looking a little rough and guess what...another school this time heading right at us.

I tell him not to move and do the same drill. This time his cast misses and startles the school they split up so I made a cast and hook up again. He had to get back early for the drive home so we made a move a little closer to the ramp to see if we can find some more. All we saw were stingrays and I caught a solid 24" lady fish that gave me a nice show. Total 4 reds 21.5"-28" on the nose. The big one was my first one of the day. I measured her about 10 times to make sure. I just knew with all the boats there would be a warden at the ramp. I saw more boats out there Sunday than the last two trips combined...
