Bay fishing rod recomendations

Do any of you have an suggestions for Rods for baitcasting setup that won't break the bank but are also reasonably decent? I have some sort of 7' abu rod now, and its good, but want to get another sometime. I have used my bass fishing rods which are very 'stiff' and inhibit my casting distance, I think. What about Ugly Stiks? Some hate them...what do you guys think? Junk? OK? I would also use this for surf fishing, but not all that much.

Depending on where you are go check out Fishing Tackle Unlimited. I picked up a few of there rods and have really enjoyed them. they usually have some cheaper rods on clearance and they have preformed very well for me. There website is good but the clearance deals are in the store. Good Luck!

oh and side note. I use to use ugly sticks all the time. only issue there is that the sensitivity is low. Great for big game but for trout or flounder I would like a softer stick.

I've always used the all stars until recently I picked up a h2o express and have been pretty impressed with it , both are under sixty bucks and have different action ranges

I think that the Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO) rods are the best value out there. They're built on Gary Loomis blanks and have one that's $100. The new series is $149. You can buy them at FTU or soon at Serious Tackle.

I like a 7' 6" heavy action rod. It really helps me whip those popping corks around, and when I use croaker it really gets those baitfish talking with every jerk of that commanding stick.

I have been using Stick'em Rods for the last 2 years, feels like a custom rod for a good price of $89. They carry a split grip now plus they have a new reel called the Outcast.

unfortunately academy no longer exchanges all stars if they break.

would like to get a very nice rod, but i like the price of the allstars when academy puts them on special. can't beat $25. i have an ugly stick, and works great when i was freshwater cat fishing. i like a stiffer rod, because when i set the hook, it's instant hook-up. when i was bass fishing, i used to have limper rods. i would feel the fish, set the hook, the rod would bend, line would get tight, then the hook set in. that's why i like the rods a little stiff. when i set the hook, it's on. just my opinion what works for me. I've been using Castaways and American Rodworks and love them both. On the other hand, I recently picked up a Custom Coastal Rod (by APSLP here on the board) as well as another custom rod. I haven't had the chance to check out Shoal Patrol rods, but they're next on my list!
Anyway, my point is that the best rod you can afford is your best investment. I wish I'd spent the money I wasted on several cheapies and put it toward one really good rod. I'll always keep some production rods around, but once you go custom it's hard to go back.
