  • Market for a new reel...

I want to get two new reels to wade with. Any input would be great. I want to spend anywhere between 150 and 200. Any suggestbuions or buyer beware? Last reels were curados...

Why wouldnt you go back to Shimano? Best out there in my opinion.

      H2o express

instead of spending $200 on 1 reel, Go to acadamy and get (QTY:4) H2O XPRESS Mettle Low-Profile Baitcast Reel (http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/st...-1?N=274871093) i own 7 of them and 3 i have had for over 5 years and i mostly wade fish with them.they are very smooth and hardy, i had one of them the drag messed up after battling a 50lb drum but acadamy replaced no questions asked. Just like any reel, gotta clean them every time and keep oiled... but i love them! and best part they are only $50 bucks!

Not saying I won't go back to Shimano, just seeing what's out there and people's preferences...

I love my Curado 50e7, but I'm pretty happy with my Mettles as well and they cost considerably less. I had a problem with the side plate on one of them and returned it for a new one. That's hard to beat.
On the other hand, I want another 50e7 too!

I love my Citica 200e. Had it for a year now, and I've never had a problem (not that 1 year is a great sample size). I rinse it every time out, and oil it after every trip.

Maybe I'm still too "Old Skool", but I like my Penn Reels. I have Silverado I have had
since back in Fla, and nary a problem with it from fishing in the surf, bay's and coves.

Lew's,Garcia,Shimano and even H2oExpress Mettle, For what Ive invested in them I have to say I like the Shimano's the best, out the box,you cant hardly beat the Mettle...nothing in its price range comes remotely close! Fisher Angleing can rebuild your old reels to better than new specs ceramic beirings&titanium drag washers. He can even balance your spool! you might check him out as he is a site sponser!

If i personally was in the market for a new reel I would look at the Lews Or find a old 100b curado.
                    Good luck

I love my old chronarch bsv and MG but the MG wont hold up as well as the bsv for wading. You can probably find both of these reels fairly cheap on ebay

Just get your old Curados rebuilt-save ya money and you'll have what you are used to and like. Once rebuilt, they should be just like new. I have about 40 reels and prefer my old Curado 200Bs over any of them-that includes the old and new chronarchs, citicas, curados, Bantams, Ambassadeurs and old Lews. As a "throw down" get a H2O express for cheapo $ while your good reels are being fixed (plus the cheapo can be the reel ya let your buddies use and don't have to worry when they dunk it in saltwater).

                        Just my $.02.

I may be in the minority here, but I love my Ambassadeur reels. I have a Shimano Calcutta 150 I think....i dunno. It fishes OK I suppose, but I still prefer my ambassadeurs over it. I buy them cheap off craigslist, rebuild if needed, throw in some carbontex and fish the hell out of em.

i was told to look at the daiwa coastal. i read the reviews, was quite impressed, so i bought one. liked it so much i bought another. i also have a shimano DSV 200, they don't make it anymore. very nice reel also. the daiwa is much simpler to clean. just have to watch how you dismantle the shimano. i like them because i only clean them once or twice a year. the ambassadors that i had, had to clean them every 2nd trip. hope this helps. Lord Bless.
