Walked in at around 3. Started with a silver spoon and made a few casts. The water was slightly dirty and the winds were light. There were small pods of bait on the surface, so after 3 or so casts, I switched to a chartreuse/white super spook junior. I then decided that I was going to use the spook the whole time. I worked down the shoreline in the direction of the wind. To my left was deeper waters and to my right was the grass shoreline. I walked slowly and really paid attention to the surface movement of the mullet. My attentiveness paid off. To my left, I saw the back of a red fish as it chased some mullet. I threw the spook 10 feet in front of it and let it sit there. I then gave it 4 twitches and swooosh! Fish ON! After a good fight and some drag singing action, the red tired and I netted him. The red went 21 inches. I was going to release him but one of the hooks was embed into the gills so I ended up keeping him.
I didn't see much action anymore so I started blind casting as I worked my way toward the back marsh area. After 50 yards and what seemed like a hundred casts, I saw some nervous bait fleeing near the grass line on my right. I tossed my spook and worked it towards me. Then up came the back and tail of another red trailing my spook. BAM! The red hit, I set the hook, Fish o.... lost it. I pulled the spook out of its mouth.
Disappointed, I continued my wade, hoping for some redemption. After another 50 yards, I reached a flat are where the the floor rose to be about shin deep. In the middle of this flats area was some very nervous mullet and a big red tail. I casted in the direction and made a few twitches and down went the spook! Fish ON again! This one was much bigger and heavier. For a second, I thought it was a big trout because it gave me some head shakes and it came to the surface and shook its head there. It ended up being a solid 26 inch red. After that, I traveled another 100 yards and didn't see any more fish. I ended up blind casting the rest of the time and my arms are sore. I guess today was a great day! Was out of the water at 6.
