  • Surf 7/25

Hit the surf with my neighbor Steve and a few other guys from FWE. Had to go out to the first bar before sunup to keep from getting pounded by the waves. No one else wanted to wade across the gut, so it was just Steve and I out on the bar.We were in the water about 5:15am. We hooked up twice before sunup and had several other blow ups that missed. When the sun came out they finally turned on for about an hour before we had to head back. We caught 12 and kept 6 for dinner for Steve. They were all around 16", but were fun to catch on top with the occasional wave breaking over our head. Definitely too rough for me, but Steve had a blast for his first time in the surf.
There were about 30 other guys that we could see, but they were all fishing the first gut and we never saw anyone hook up.
We did have 2 small sharks put on aerial shows chasing something. Looks a lot flatter this evening and with the full moon last night they will probably be feeding like crazy this evening.

Not where we were. I got back about 30 minutes ago and the only thing caught was a 3' sand shark I had on for a while. It hit a 51MR and didn't get the lure. We were on the outside bar and the surf was waist to chest high. Water was in good shape and rafts of mullet....go figure! The SE wind hasn't laid either.
