Me and a group of old friends met up at the pay beach at Surfside before daylight Saturday morning for an all day fishing party. I threw a black/chrome SS Jr. in the first and second guts in the dark for a while and had no blow ups. At first light 4 of us fished off the back of the second bar, me throwing a gold spoon, another throwing a plumtreuse assassin, another soaking live croaker and the fourth soaking live shrimp. Long story short, we threw everything but the kitchen sink at em, yet didn't hook a spec all day long. I personally had two long wrestling matches with a couple of Jacks and since there was no spec bite where we were, took the time to land both. The second, pictured below, flat wore me out. The 12 year old son of one of the friends stayed in the first gut all day long and absolutely slaughtered the bull whiting. I wish I had picture to post on that as they were some of the biggest whiting I've ever seen. The fishing at that spot was great, but as is sometimes (often times with me the past week), the catching not so much so.
