  • The One That Got Away

Man what a afternoon. A friend and I waded in about 6:45 this evening out front here. We were both throwing a chrm/blk Shepup without any blowups. Fast & furious worked yesterday afternoon, but wasn't this evening. I decided to do a real slow two-three count and pause.
At the end of the cast I reeled up the lure with maybe 6 inches out. I lifted the rod tip so the lure was at least 18 inches out of the water when this very big trout came up on the bar and nailed it! With no line out, I was bowed up and the fish was shaking the rod tip back and forth in the water. I was screaming at my buddy who was 20 feet away saying "did you see that" when it threw the hook!
Big fish 7-8 pounds easy. A bummer but very cool.......

Reading the story took longer than the fight. It was quick and I was a tad freaked!
We've all had fish hit at the end of a cast when were reeling up, but one literally at the rod tip that far out of the water was a trip.....

Thats crazy. I have had fish hit it will I had the rod under my arm trying to get something but never out of the water. That had to have the nerves going for a little while... Best of luck next time.
I never saw a wild thing feel sorry for itself. A small baby bird will fall frozen, dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself...
