  • and the wind blew in the marsh

I gave the marsh a rest for about 4 days and took a road trip with my wife through East Texas to visit relatives. Should have stayed in the marsh.

Monday the first day back was very windy, and I went to a marsh that I haven't fished all summer. Found a lot of reds and caught 4. The tide was low and the marsh grass was on the top or close to it. I started with a gurgler that I had good success with a few weeks ago. If you squint your eyes, turn your head sideways, and look quickly it almost looks like a shrimp. However, on this day I cast to several reds that snuck up behind it, took a close look, and blasted away like they had seen a rattlesnake. I quickly changed to a near enough modified clouser that looks a little like a shrimp (you still have to squint) and caught 4. One was 26' and one was 27". These were my 2 largest for this year.

Tuesday went back to the same marsh and caught 2.

Today I went to a different marsh and only caught 1. I had 2 more hooked but lost them both to operator incompetence. The wind has made casting a fly rod from a kayak somewhat of a challenge. Its especially hard since i'm not a very good caster even in normal circumstances.

Yep. East Texas can be like that.
Glad you made it back to the marsh.

You gotta keep the wife happy , Jim . You 've been married long enough to know that . If mama ain' t happy , no one is happy . You paid the piper , now you can roam your peaceful marsh . For a not so great caster , you seem to be holding your own ! LOL ! Good outings , thanks for sharing , Jim . Keep up the reports !
