My dad hadn't been fishing in forever. I asked him if it matted what kind of fish we targeted and he said, "no, I just want my line stretched." well, I can do that. Headed out to the sulfur docks (the prison) at 9ish. While the tide was weak, the fishing was not. We had non stop action of the convicts until we ran out of bait. Lost track of how many we caught. We stuck close to the structure and dropped our carolina rigged shrimp straight down. the downside though was that all of the fish were fat but between 10-14 inches. We snagged a few keepers but they were too few and far in between the little ones. I suggested we move to another location and target the big ones and flounder but my dad was having a ball so we stayed there until he was tired. If I were to guesstimate how many we caught it would be around 40 or so. I have video, but it'll take time to edit.

Late March through May is when we really hammer them. They will be all over the beachfront and the ship channel. It is there spawning season for them and the big sows are packed with eggs.
Sometime when it is calm and green we need to yak out on the S. Jetty and drift live shrimp under slip corks, it can be some fast action.

It's about that time for them gaffttops to start running. I remember many a night on the gulf coast pier falling down slipping and sliding from all the slime on the deck.
I like to bleed them also."Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after" ~ Henry David Thoreau
