I was also wondering if there is a technique that works best for winter kayak fishing? I know to key in on deeper channels and to fish slower. But what is the best recommended set up for a kayak? Anchoring off a channel and casting in to it with live bait, getting out and wading, drift across an area, etc.? Are there and good areas to kayak up to and catch sheepshead around here? Thanks for any tips.

I'm old, fat & lazy and I hate to get out of my darned kayak because that means I'll just have to get back in. Thus I prefer not to wade if I'm yakkin'. Besides, you can do most of the same things you do wading in the yak. I like channels: you can find all sorts of things in them. I like to drop anchor, but that may only be because I don't have drift sock!

I like to kayak to my spot and hop out. I don't really like fishing from my kayak but sometimes you have no choice- for instance clear lake. Drifting with a soft plastic is a good way to cover water.

I would think that the best place to kayak in the cold would be . . . . . . Wait for it . . . . . Wait for it!
