  • Louie's After Dark - 11/4

I came home from work early today. I grabbed my 8yo son and we headed south at 4p. Traffic on 45 was awful, we didn't get the kayak in the water at Louie's until 5:45p.

We paddled back into the marsh and I caught a solid flounder on the 2nd cast. I lost a 2nd trying to pass the rod to my son to reel in. As soon as the sun went down, it was done.

Tide was out when we launched. No wind, very little tidal movement. I stirred up some shrimp and bait paddling around but it was pretty quiet otherwise. Dead flat calm. Saw a pretty sunset and my son found some crab claws so he was happy.

Just a quick trip to try and enjoy some fishing. Sorry, didn't take the camera.

I got nothing on Reeltime but my one fish was solid, maybe 18". Caught on a white buggs lure with a chartreuse wiggly tail thing.

Thanks for the report. Is it too shallow in the marsh for a john boat without a trolling motor ?

When I was headed in, a young man was headed out in a v-bottom aluminum boat with 9.9 on it. He was taking it really slow, and with reason. With the tide out like it was today, it is crazy skinny in there.

I caught both fish right inside the marsh entrance south of the RR bridge, just to the north of the shallow lake that is on the south side. I paddled back to the marsh reclamation islands but it got really skinny back there and their wasn't enough light for me to find the channels. With the tide 'normal', I can usually paddle all around the reclamation islands with no trouble. Not tonight.

Thanks for the imfo. I've been wanting to check that area out. I'll hit it sometime on a high tide.

You can go mad far in there on a good tide. It just sucks when you are trying to get out. Way to get out there!

There are two good lakes way back in there. You can paddle all the way to Bassford if you have the horsepower. Great marsh spot.

That's a good spot for an FWE paddle in. Lots of area so we can spread out. Beer at Louie's when we're done. I'll try to get something organized before winter is all the way on us. It's a good spot and pretty close if you live in Houston like I do. Fort anahuac is about the same distance. Baytown nature center is the closest to me.
