  • Buying a decent yak?

I saw this posted on TKF today and it looks too good to pass up.

What do y'all think about this for a starter kayak?

Heck yeah that's good! Wish it was a little longer, but you can't beat the stability and the extra stuff.

With all the stuff, you can't pass it up. The kayak is essentially free. Glad it has a rudder - that is by far the most important accessory after a good PFD. Good luck with it.

Man, I'm hoping to! I talked to the guy today and he said there was a guy ahead of me that wasn't sure about it. He's gonna call me tomorrow. I told him I'll come with cash in hand. I'm dying to get it!

Let me know if you need help transporting the yak. I can swing by with my car with the carrying system on top so you don't have to scratch up your car.

                Wow, and many thanks, J!
The only time I've tried to move a yak with my car I almost put a major crease in the roof. It was enough to make me miss my old truck (not really). I'm waiting to hear back from the seller. He had a guy ahead of me from College Station that contacted him ahead of me but sounded a little uncertain. If I get the chance that baby is gone!

When you get it (and I really hope you get it), we can all go out together to break it in. I can get my Ultimate and another yak on top of the Suburban. Chris can carry two on his I'm sure.

This is the best time of year for kayak fishing if you ask me - spring, summer and winter aren't bad either.

I've tried fishing from a yak several times. The only successful run was in a borrowed one with plugger, although I almost drowned!! (not really, but the pictures are scary enough). The only other forays were in my fabulous Bud yaks, one of which I was wise enough to burden Ubbermentsch with. I'm hoping this one will be bouyant enough for my mass!

Sounds like a good deal, like with any kayak..invest in a good seat.

Very good deal! Looks like it would fit you well. Grab it!

Consider installing pad eyes (it uses D rings at the handles for the seat), which are pretty easy to pop rivet in. I can help.

Looks like the Scotty rod mount in front is pretty far forward. You can get an extension from Hook 1 (I did)

He has the same Cuda finder I have.

Once you've got it, let's put it to trial say, next weekend. This weekend and following week is a bust for me. I can always come over and pick you and the yak up in my truck.
