Mind you, I have nothing against those that were making a living on the water back in the day....but know first hand that there were a ton of juvenile flatties that didn't make it after each haul.

The recreational fisherman was having a negligable impact but were the ones that were included. Let's see how it goes and perhaps we can see the same upswing in fish populations that occured when the Reds were looked at....

Have to agree with my brother Paul. It's the damn pollution that's causing it....either that or the Corps of Engineers jacking with our "Shizz" here in the bay.

Heck, before you know it someone will say "It's George Bush's Fault"....but sadly we are still gonna have to nurture the resources that we have back to the way that they used to be.

          ....just sayin'......
I was in the same group when GCCA began and thought they were really going to be a huge assest, yea, they did, but a HUGE A##. Having the buy-back program was a good step, but even then, with the amount of bay and gulf trawlers, we still lose a tremendous amount of juvenille flounder or fingerlings with each drap especially during the fall months when the white shrimp season is here. Allowing shrimpers to drag the channels for 'supposed' shrimp/squid during the fall months and are able to retain 60 fish/day, that's catering to the commercial folks whereas the recreational guys and gals are left with the short straw. Heck, the commercial red snapper folks get to retain 13" red snapper minimum and a 2,000 limit/trip but us carrying recreational anglers MUST only take 2 red snapper and with a minimum of 16" length/day even though it's in federal waters, they give in to the commercial folks. Had one group conversation with the feds, a commercial snapper boat operator, head boat capt out of Galveston and one of A&M federal fisheries landings employee and asked 1 question, got the answer from the commercial snapper fellow and I thought it was going to be another world war.

Yes, Paul and Galv.340 are 100% correct with what they say CCA and I support what they have said. If the CCA wants to really do something for the recreational anglers, then dadgumit, do so to fisheries management for the recreational folks and curb the commercial mess that goes on for their benefit and lobby for us!!

            Insightful post SP.
Speaking of the CCA And concerning the KILT610 Outdoors Show.
AND I COULD BE TOTALY WRONG ON THIS AND FELL FREE TO CORRECT ME.
if I recall correctly, up until the last few months captin Micky Eastman would publicly lambast CCA but here lately he is touting them in a good light like he has been bought off. What gives?
Like I mentioned I may be totaly wrong on the subject.
Captain Stevens. I stole the whack and stack from Micky but next time I'll remember.

Sure wish I was back down there in Galveston Co. to be able to get with yall and go after a few, but working here in Austin sure does limit the time I can run down there.

nice job sticking them flat bastards ... they are the most elusive of the big 3 for me. you would think that since they live on the bottom they wouldnt be that hard to find....lol

I'm fairly sure they are the smartest of the big 3.
Youd be surprised at how many my partner or I miss because the angle is wrong and you cant see her when she is right in front of you.
The nice thing about a boat is you can cover a lot of area and take big ones only.
On the other hand. Concerning Galveston Bay. Our waters are so off color it has to be a perfect nite of conditions to do this.
Some bays in the lower coast might need the new flounder regs but Galveston never was "on the brink" and I bet Sabine is the same. Yet we all suffer.
Its just like military boot camp. One freaks up and we all have to pay.

I'm with 2112 on internet politics ... with that being said ...

                          A few flounder facts
Flounder live approx 6 yrs - they are alot like whitetail bucks
Male flounder rareley exceed 14" and max around 16"
Most 20" flounder are in the 3-4yr range

I always try to present the next set of questions in a way that make you think
Why is it we release specs that are 25+" range? - most want to simply catch a bigger one (that exceeds 30")
Why do most hunters prefer to allow 3-4 yr old bucks walk? - I like to think it because you want a bigger one - but also to pass along it's genes too ...
So why can't the bigger flounder gain the respect of the true trophies we all desire?

If you are harvesting a resource in a legal manner, the opinions of others really don't matter ...only those of TPWD do ...

It is nice to see so many solid stringers of flounder coming from anglers

Brian. I unblocked and read all you post now. We are on the same page.
                            Here is a cool obsevastion.
All the flounder where female except the smallest that was 18"It was the only flounder that when cleaned did not have 2 roe sacks and I thought right away I have a record male on my hands. It wasnt physically near as thick as the girls either.
If it wasn't a 18" male then why no roe?
                            Just saying.

                              I don't know ... good question for a biologist

-could have been one of those genetic frecks
-could have been a female that was not ready to spawn
