Boat Ramp on Sportmans Rd. ?

Does anyone know if this ramp will handle a 19ft Boston Whaler? I always thought it was for smaller/lighter boats, but was just wondering if anyone on this board has put in there and what size boat would the ramp handle? Thanks for any info.

I have not used it for several years. Back then I would say yes. The water is deep enough. The problem might be the ramp itself. I looked at it over the summer and it looked like the asphalt was washed out. This would cause your trailer to hang up or bottom out. It could be fixed by now, but I haven't seen it since June. With the cold front coming this Friday you might look at it when the tide drops on Saturday. If I lived close I would check it out for you, but I live on the East side of Houston.

I drove by there a few weeks ago and did not even see a ramp, but some of the others on the site might be able to help you out.

we rented the house right there next to it last summer(casa de mare),and i saw boats launching there.water is deep enough,but watch the ramp itself and be careful,the asphalt is washed out in a few places.that is a great place to launch.it's about 1/2 way down sportmans.drive slow because there are no signs for it,but it is a public ramp,right next to the casa de mare, a 2 story house with a blue roof.

I think it'll handle your boat you just might have to get your feet wet to jump in the boat once you've launched (no place to dock)

Thanks for the info....I saw a Whaler like mine being loaded there recently and was surprised...the guy had a big 4x4, so I was wondering if you need that much truck...but I think I will go check it out Sunday after the N wind has been blowing a while-good idea RC. Ive been in there at night before and made it back to Fat Boys fine, but there is a lot of stuff to run a ground on in the dark on the way back..that ramp sure would be convenient this time of year. Thanks again.

Let me know how it is. I have thought about launching there many time and I think I would have no problem with my little flatbottom.

Hammer I saw a guy come out in what I think was a 19ft Outrage which is what I have (heavy boat/deep V for the length)...It was dark and I wasnt really paying attention, but i think it was a 19ft, I guess it could of been a 17 but I would think you would be fine in a flat bottom either way...I'll let you know if/when I launch there.

I've launched my kayak there a number of times and being in the water the ramp did seem to drop off like root canal said ...didn't seem to extend that far into the water. I'd go and walk out on it to feel how far it extends before launching.

Hope you have a big 'ol 4x4 to pull that trailer over a 1.5' dropoff

I've never launched anything but a yak there, but the ramp is in bad shape. Seems to end very quick and there is a ledge. Use caution, especially with the low tides. Fat Boy's and Galv. Bait and Tackle ramps aren't that far off.

Checked it out this am....not taking my boat there....like milkjug said big dropoff and it is a short ramp, lots of debri...might be ok for a small boat, but I dont think I could get the boat out of the water unless the tide was about 2 feet high and/or I had a tractor to pull it out! Thanks for the input.

That's true. In my case, I 'm hanging onto my kayak and it's still dicey.

Launched my kayak there a lot. Hard to find stuck between the two houses.

It is also as slippery as owl s--t. Be careful when you walk it as I have slipped there several times trying to walk on the ramp.
