  • Old trolling motor question

My neighbor just gave me his old motorguide trolling motor for free. Its a 1986 (im guessing its 1986, has a pat number with 1986) Motorguide Brute trolling motor 12/24 with a foot pedal. I have no idea what model number. I need help as far as finding out what model number so I can look into rigging it up and figuring the wire simatics to the ole jon boat.

It does not have any stickers for idetification. The top is beige with the bottom black. I'l try and post pics.

    Thanks ahead of time

There is a group of wires coming from the foot, two are red and one is black. then the black continues to a connector of some sort with a red off of that.

I can't really tell what the connector is but I can the all you that the black is the ground wire. And the 2 reds are your positive wires. To use as a 12v use only one and if using as 24v use both. One to each battery.

Which part, the whole thing or towards the connector. Any idea of model or thrust?

Just a good pic of the wire at the end. I am trying to see if all the wires are loose or if a black and red are together with a single red added. Or if by chance one of the red wires has a stripe on it by chance.

                  Re: Old trolling motor question

Ok. One last? And I have ya all solved and will draw ya a schematic. Is there a switch anywhere that selects the unit from 12 to 24 volt?. And what do you plan on using.... 12 or 24 volt. In other words one or two batteries?

Yes the switch is located on the foot control. For right now probably 12v. What could i change the connector with and how. Sorry when it comes to electrical ima little slow.

The fuse or circuit breaker needs to be no further than 12 inches from battery. I hope this helps.
