  • She's Running Great!!

Alright guys, I finally got the 1965 Evinrude 9.5 hp running. It was so rewarding!! It runs, idles, and revs great! It also pumps water excellently (whoever replaced the impeller must have been a pro ). I am now in the process of building a more sturdy stand to run it on. Thanks to all who helped!

No sir, I do not. My uncle has one on his stock pond that I believe I am going to go boat test it on once I tune it to perfection. I might have to start lobbying for a jon boat to leave at the bay house, but we'll see. I am in the process of beefing up the stand and will post a report with pics when I'm done (sometime after dinner). Thanks

        That is great news!

If you want to run it one morning, you can bring it down to Chocolate and we can hang it on the back of my jon boat. You can run it up and down the bayou all you want.

Alright that sounds great, I will have to find a day that I can do that sometime! I need to make sure that the lower unit isn't leaking, because I was only able to replace about half of the seals. The gearcase screws were totally seized and soaking them in pb blaster and liquid wrench for weeks didn't help. I hope I'm lucky and got the leaking one out though. Thanks. I am going out to get pictures of the befier stand that I whipped together this evening. It has a lot sturdier of a base.

Thanks Bayoucat! The only problem is that it was a little hard to start after I killed it to put the cowling on to make sure there wasn't an exhaust leak, so I think I might need to clean the plugs again in case they're fouled. Should that help? Thanks

nope. I started and ran it with the cowling on for about 15 minutes. Is that enough time to rule out the infamous exhaust leak? Also, my helicoil spark plug thread insert pulled out when I pulled my spark plug . So I pulled the cylinder head again and I need to go to the local ACE to get a new insert. The RTV high temp silicone disappointed me! I even gave it a couple of days to dry!
