Ethanol Gas

Anyone else having problems with E10 gas in their outboards?

My boat is now in the shop (Evens Marine in Baycliff Tx.) needing a overhaul.
Bruce the owner has a small shop but looks like plenty of business. I was referred to him by a neighbor that said they do good work and are reliable.

All i know is im gonna be without the boat for a couple of weeks.

Water separator is a MUST!! -- I had a whole tank full of phase separated fuel last year and the only way I caught it was by checking the water separator regularly. It makes this honey colored gunk -- and the remaining gas thats on the top of the gunk isn't even worth running in the lawn mower..

I haven't had any problems, but you can bet ima start using an aditive, you guys make me nervous

Ethanol added to gas on the coast is one of the dumbest ideas ever. Alcohol condenses water and ruins the gas as well as lowering the BTUs. And since the corn crop is screwed this year due to the drought the price will continue to rise.

There are almost zero places you can ethanol free gas. If you could, I would've gotten it a long time ago. People that claim thet have it are most likely full of sheet and they have the marine grade like we do. But it's still ethanol, just treated. I've been told by all the suppliers there is no such thing as ethanol free gas.

GALV340, they purchase the gas from Suncoast and then Valv-Tech comes out and treats the gas in the tanks with their additives they say takes care of the ethanol. It's expensive and in return, we get to put up all their stickers and fly their flags.

I'm pretty sure that most distributors get their gas from the same 1 or 2 or 3 sources. They've all told me the same regarding ethanol free gas. I've read where Coarchlaw said theres a place in La that sells it. That wouldn't surprise me because when David Duke is your governor, I'd imagine you can tell the Feds to stick it. He's still the governor right?

Seems like Swells has said the same about way down S. Texas into Mexico. I'd imagine the Zetas probably do and get what they want also.

If I could buy about 20,000 gallons of ethanol free, I'd sure do it.

Ah lake of the pines, dangerfield lake(Lone star) etc...I grew up fishing those lakes.

A lot of of those places claiming to sell ethanol free gas are selling treated gas, like Valv-tech. I honestly don't believe you can buy true ethanol free gas from a distributor, save and except maybe a very few limited sources. Suncoast told me the only one they knew of was way over on the East Coast.

It started as a "low pollutant" and was implemented in major metropolitan areas-think about your inspection stickers-Houston versus galveston, then Galveston was included and Brazoria County-Matagorda is still like $17.50 for a sticker. Then the Corn Producing States lobbied for more inclusion and the EPA and Congress agreed. This year, refiners can start making and selling E15 gas, so expect it to get worse.

PLEASE BE SURE TO PUT THE ADDITIVE IN BEFORE ADDING GAS SO YOU WASH THE ADDITIVE DOWN YOUR FILL HOSES-THAT ADDITIVE WILL EAT UP YOUR FILL HOSE QUICK!! Fred at Redwing showed me my fill hose-actualy what was left of it-and said always dump additive before gassing the boat and never let additive sit in the fill line. Just an FYI.

X2 on the Startron additive, it wont over treat,and just change that fuel water seperator often as it cheap compared to a powerhead! I recently installed new fuel lines because they started peeling on the inside and trash was heading to my carb down stream of my filter I put in a small glass filter right at the engine soI can view the condition of whats fixing to enter the engine and used an ethanol proof fuel hose,that dont mean it will last forever, just hold up better!..also watch who it is you buy from cause some station just really dont give a shizz!

I can name at least seven guys who have had to put their boats in the shop because of ethanol and the bill in every case was at least $700.00

Is it ok to add additive after filling up with a portable red plastic fuel tank? That's what I've been doing.
