WTG Brian, you beat me to that fix as I have had to do this from my own experiance, and G340 was right about keeping spare shear pins in the tackle box or duck tape inside the cowling just in case your not close to your tackle box,I had a bad day and went through about four one time!

Cool motor. I have 1976 Evinrude 9.9 that I have taken all apart. It's been fun.

Nevermind guys, I got the screwdriver method to work. Thanks Mr.Evans, your method worked. All it took was about half an hour and a few bloody knuckles haha!

I am now going to clean some rust off of the driveshaft, re-grease it, and put the impeller back on. I then will clean the housings and reinstall the lower unit.

I just blew into the output of the fuel pump and i could not blow in, then tested the input and I could blow in... I assume this means I have a functioning fuel pump. Do y'all still think I need to go through it and replace those parts?

That's a good pump no torn diaphragm. Still could be stretched. Should have 2-2.5 psi when cranking motor. If under 2, change diaphragm

Alright guys, I got the lower unit back on after my first water pump job ever. I got some gear lube to change it out, and when I opened the screw, some water drained out before the oil. Do y'all think the seals are bad. Or could it be the O-rings on the drain/vent screws. (There were no existing o rings on the screws when I pulled them out). Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

                            Reseal it.

In hindsight, I wish I would have drained and refilled the lower unit before storing the motor.

I think this is the kit you need - http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfinde...n_id=027108419

...and make sure you refill it with a marine grade lower unit oil. I read that there are additives added that help the oil mix with water just in case there is an intrusion.
